Addressing the media on April 2, 2024, the Ghana Education Service (GES) official said the central government will absorb the 2024 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination registration fee as part of the Free SHS policy.

“All students with our government secondary schools under the Free SHS programme are not required to pay that GHc465 because that money is already fully absorbed by the government under the Free SHS,” the Director-General said.

Commenting on the recall of final-year students who are currently on vacation by heads of some Senior High Schools to come and complete their WASSCE registration process, he said the registration process can be completed when school resumes on April 17, 2024.

“We have also learnt that some of our Form 3 students who are already home on vacation have been asked by some of the schools to come back and complete their WASSCE registration. We want to say unequivocally that no student on vacation should be asked to come back to school for this registration

The reason is that by the time they come back to school on 17th April, they will have enough time to complete their registration. Headmasters should note that students should not be asked to go back to school because we know that students live far and near,” Dr Eric Nkansah told journalists.

His comment comes after the management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) said it has approved GH¢465.00 as 2024 WASSCE for School registration fees for the entry of 7 to 9 subjects.

In a blog post sighted by Thisterm.com, it said the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School registration fee excludes fees for practical or oral tests which range between GH¢14.50 and GH¢19.50 per test

‘We wish to inform our public that the approved WAEC registration fee for entry in 7 to 9 subjects is GH¢465.00. This figure is exclusive of the fees for practical or oral tests which range between GH¢14.50 and GH¢19.50 per test,” it said.
