WAEC to blacklist ‘SDA Senior High School’ from 2024/25 WASSCE
The not-for-profit-making organization (WAEC) says after scrutiny of candidates submitted by SDA Senior High School for the 2024 WASSCE for School, it may blacklist them from partaking in the Ghana version of the examination.
This a spokesperson for the West African Examinations Council, John Kapi has said is because the majority of candidates from the Kenyasi-based Senior High School to sit for the WASSCE are illegally registered candidates.
“Candidates submitted by SDA SHS for WASSCE 2024 should be scrutinised. That is checked against their enrolment list or blacklisted from WASSCE since a majority are illegally registered candidates,” he told Daily Graphic in an interview.
The WAEC official also said it had been recommended to the management of his outfit to derecognise the SDA Senior High School (SHS) as a centre for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) conducted examinations.
Explaining the cause for the ban of the SDA students from partaking in the upcoming WASSCE for School, Kapi said the school had allowed some two persons to use their login code and uniform to register unqualified students for the examination.
“The two were able to carry out their activities with a biometric device with the number AY00T004145 with the login code 93868278 and a Lenovo laptop as well as a green lady’s school uniform and a white boy’s shirt,” he told Graphic.
The suspects, Robert Hackman, a private teacher and a part-time teacher in Kenyasi SDA Senior High School residing at Agona Swedru and Kwabena Baah Achemfour he said are helping the Swedru District Police Headquarters in the investigation.
“A combined team of the Intelligence Unit of the National Security and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) security picked the suspects up while they were attempting to register the candidates
Through social media, Hackman was alleged to have mobilised out-of-school individuals who once sat for the WASSCE but could not make the grades or had their papers cancelled to re-register for the 2024 WASSCE for School
Most of the people mobilised for the illegal registration by Hackman were from Accra, Takoradi, Agona Swedru and Cape Coast. Others were from Dunkwa-On-Offin,” the WAEC spokesman told the newspaper in the discussion.
The 2024 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School according to a WAEC blog post sighted by Thisterm.com will be conducted from Monday, August 5, 2024, to Friday, September 27, 2024.
“The final timetable for the examination will be made available to all schools and will be on the WAEC website as well. Candidates are advised to contact their schools or visit the WAEC website for the accurate timetable,” it said in the post.
