WAEC reveals outcome of 2023 WASSCE students’ withheld results
After re-grading and observing the 2023 WASSCE scripts under scrutiny, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it found that prospective students’ mode of answering the examination questions followed the same trend.
The Acting Controller of WEAC Sunyani, Victor E. K Abiew disclosed this after GBC News reached out to enquiry, when withheld WASSCE results, will be released for affected students as their colleagues already have gained admission into tertiary institutions.
The WAEC official citing the impossibility of students writing in the same pattern said examiners tasked to scrutinize the WASSCE scripts realized that the candidates followed a similar trend resulting in answers that were the same.
On the plight of the affected WASSCE students, he said the irregularities or malpractices that occurred and the conduct of candidates are not the doing of the not-for-profit-making organization, hence WAEC should not be blamed.
His comment dates back to an announcement made by WAEC in December that it had withheld the subject results of candidates from 235 Senior High Schools who sat for the Ghana version of the International examination for collusion
WAEC also said the subject’s results were withheld over artificial intelligence-generated answers adding that withheld WASSCE results of over 200 candidates may be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of investigations
“The subject results of candidates from 235 Senior High schools (SHSs) have been withheld for collusion and the use of artificial intelligence-generated answers. These cases are still under investigation.
The 2023 WASSCE for School withheld results of these candidates may be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of the investigations,” the West African Examinations Council said in a blog post sighted Thisterm.com.
A total number of 448,674 candidates made up of 212,453 males and 236,221 females from 975 schools sat the WASSCE. This figure is 5.8% higher than the 2022 entry figure of 422,883. A total number of 3,404 (0.75%) were absent from the examination.
WAEC should release the results because we were unable to go to tertiary, our school didn’t use AI along side malpractice we wrote it for our own self, please we need our results
