WAEC invites 2023 WASSCE for School graduates over malpractice
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has invited students who sat for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School but have had their results withheld to visit any of its regional offices across the country.
In a blog post sighted by Thisterm.com, WAEC said all students who took part in the WASSCE but had their results withheld due to alleged involvement in examination irregularities are to visit the WAEC Regional Offices where they wrote the examination
Such students accompanied by their parents/guardians it said are to visit the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) regional office where they wrote the international examination between April 15, 2024 and April 18, 2024.
“The April 2024 invitation, the management of the not-for-profit-making organization (WAEC) said is to assist the Council to conclude its investigations into the alleged irregularities of the examination conducted last academic year.
“Candidates are hereby informed that their refusal to honour this invitation shall not preclude the council from making a final determination on the cases,” the West African Examinations Council said in the blog post on its official website.
The invitation comes after some parents of students who sat for the 2023 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School accused the Council of forcing their wards to admit they cheated in the examination.
Speaking to Otec, the parents said WAEC has compelled their wards to give statements without their supervision adding it has also threatened the WASSCE graduates with a ban should they refuse to cooperate with investigations.
“Our children have been forced to admit engaging in examination malpractices during the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination, a situation we deemed illegal, considering their ages,” an angry parent told Otec News
“There were invigilators and other security officers during the exams, if there had been any sort of malpractices, they should have been apprehended..the invigilators should be questioned not the innocent students, another parent said.
