WAEC gives a ‘deadline’ to release BECE graduates withheld results
The not-for-profit organization (WAEC) says it will after the conclusion of an ongoing investigation into cases of examination malpractice release the BECE withheld results of candidates who sat for this year’s national examination.
The West African Examinations Council in a blog post said its decision to cancel and withhold the subject or entire results of some candidates follows the approval of the Examiners Appointment Committee on November 6, 2023.
An official of WAEC in a discussion with Thisterm.com said the ongoing investigation will not take longer than 31 days but he also said it sometimes does citing that his outfit has not specified any date to release the BECE withheld results.
“When your results are still withheld after an abnormal period you may be called to the WAEC office in your region or at the WAEC headquarters in Accra to make a statement concerning the examination malpractice,” he explained.
The Council official said at times, some suspended results of candidates are released one week after the conclusion of the investigation adding that “but in some cases, it takes a longer time depending on how serious the malpractice is.”
The WAEC official comment comes after his outfit released the 2023 provisional BECE results said the subject results of 180 Junior High School candidates and 4 private candidates have been withheld for various suspected offences.
