WAEC discloses 2024 BECE for School and Private registration date
This year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School and Private registration of students to sit for the national examination will commence on March 11, 2024, and end on April 19, 2024, the West African Examinations Council has said.
WAEC in a blogpost sighted by Thisterm.com encouraged eligible Junior High Schools (JHSs) and private candidates to register for the national examination within the stated period as there will be no extension of the deadline.
“Schools and prospective candidates are encouraged to register within the stated period. Kindly note that the Council may not be able to accommodate late registration this year,” the management of WAEC said in the blog post.
The 34th edition of the BECE for School and Private Candidates according to the Ghana Education Service (GES) will be administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) from July 8, 2024, to July 12, 2024.
In a statement shared with Thisterm.com, GES said it has grouped the subject into three categories (mandatory subject, Elective subject and optional subject) for the 34th edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
For the avoidance of doubt, the approved examinable subjects students partake in the BECE for School to be administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) this academic year to register for are;
Mandatory subject: English Language, Mathematics, General Science, Social Studies, Religious and Moral Education, Career Technology and Creative Arts and Design.
Elective subject: Ghanaian Language (Candidates are supposed to register for the Ghanaian Languages they studied)
Optional subject: French, Arabic and Computing
Commenting on this year’s BECE, the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum said the type of questions for this year’s BECE for School Candidates may be different from the regular due to the move to standards-based curriculum.
“The type of questions may be different but the subjects are going to be the same. I think it is important for parents not to panic but they are to understand their children are still going to write BECE,” the Minister said in the interview.
