WAEC extends WASSCE for School registration deadline for Liberia
The management of the Liberia National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has extended the 2024 WASSCE for School registration process for Liberian candidates to sit for the international examination this year.
In a press statement sighted by Thisterm.com, the not for-profit-making organization (WAEC) said the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School registration deadline has been extended by five (5) days
“This decision by management is aimed at giving dispensation to schools that have not completed the registration of their candidates to do so on or before the date mentioned,” the Liberia National Office of WAEC said in the release.
It added, “It is management’s anticipation that schools in the said category will complete the registration of their students or have themselves to blame, as there will be no further extension after the Sunday, April 21, 2024 deadline.”
The 2024 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates will be administered from May 15, 2024, to June 5, 2024, for all candidates of WAEC member countries except for those from Ghana.
In a related development, the Director-General of Ghana Education Service, Dr Eric Nkansah says final-year students in Senior High School will commence their WASSCE School registration after they have returned from vacation on April 17, 2024,
The Ghana-only version of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates according to the West African Examination Council will be conducted from Monday, August 5, 2024, to Friday, September 27, 2024.
The Ghana National Office of the West African Examinations Council in a blog post said that despite the difference in the period for the conduct of the examination, the standard of the examination remains unchanged.
“Question papers are compiled by officers across the member countries. At the end of the examination, International Preliminary Coordination Meetings are held to finalize draft marking schemes.
Further, right after the marking exercise, the International Awards Committee meets to determine the grade boundaries for all subjects. These processes ensure that the examination written by Ghana only still maintains its International status,” it said in the post.
The final timetable for this academic year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School, the Examinations Coucil has said will be made available to all schools and will be on the WAEC website as well.
“Candidates are advised to contact their schools or visit the WAEC website for the accurate timetable. Candidates should refrain from downloading timetables from unverifiable websites,” the examinations organization stated.
