Teacher union calls for the removal of Executive Director of NaSIA
The central government through the Ministry of Education (MoE) has been asked by a teacher union to replace the Executive Director of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), Dr Haggar Hilda Ampadu with a competent person.
Explaining why the female NaSIA Director should be removed, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) said that the outfit of Dr Haggar Hilda Ampadu has failed to work closely with the various teacher unions.
President of the National Teachers Association, Angel Carbonu on behalf of teacher unions questioned why the NaSIA has sidelined trained teachers under the Ghana Education Service to embark on inspections in various schools.
“One wonders whether it’s right for the Inspector to be the one to collect fees and charges. And again, I have never seen the report that NASIA is supposed to bring out quarterly on the inspection work that they have done. It looks as if the leader of NASIA as of now does not understand the job that is been given to her.
We humbly plead with the government to change her and get a more competent person to manage NASIA and see how we operate in that [area]. Since that agency was formed, it has never had any meetings with the representatives of the teachers in this country, and I’m talking about the unions.
There has not been a single meeting, we have reached out to the head of National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NASIA), the leadership, all these years, and we’re talking about six years now, zero, no meeting,” Angel Carbonu said.
In the 2019 academic year, Dr Haggar Hilda Ampadu was appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to head the National Inspectorate Board, under the Ministry of Education (MoE).
Under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act (Act 1023, Part 4), the National Inspectorate Board was renamed to National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA). It licenses and inspects all pre-tertiary public and private schools.
