The Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe said the move is because the Education Minister has repeatedly failed to appear before the House to provide answers to their questions.

“We have realised that anytime these issues come up, or when the government is delaying, it’s only when we talk. In fact, you invite them and they will tell you they are working on it

Basic Education Certificate Examination issue, we invited the minister of education and finance, it was only the deputy minister of education who represented the minister and we realised that that was not an issue the deputy minister would handle

We will need the minister himself to appear before the committee. As a minority, we decided that this time, we would put everything in the public domain.

So that people will appreciate the challenges people are going through for the government to take the necessary action,” the member of the Parliament Education Committee said in a Citi News interview monitored by Thisterm.com.

He addressing journalists in Accra on Wednesday also disclosed that the central government owes over 6 billion Ghana Cedis to organizations and individuals involved in the flagship Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.

“Free SHS is a very laudable programme, it has provided access to secondary education for quite a large number of people who wouldn’t have had the opportunity, looking at the cost involved at that time

I can say that the information available to me indicates that over GHC6 billion is being owed to companies, individuals and organisations in relation to Free Senior High School (Free SHS),” the government official told the media.
