In a blog post sighted by Thisterm.com, NaCCA said the introduction of the teaching material forms part of efforts to ensure a seamless implementation of the new SHS, SHTS, and STEM Curriculum for the 2024/2025 academic year.

“The objective behind developing teacher manuals is to provide teachers with a structured approach to teaching, ensuring that lessons are delivered logically and sequentially,” the National Curriculum Council said in the post.

Speaking at the subject manuals unveiling, the Director General of NaCCA, Professor Edward Appiah emphasised that the teacher manuals will ensure teachers deliver lessons that are aligned with the Standard-Based Curriculum.

Prof Edward Appiah said the teachers manuals have been developed as a complementary document to guide in-service teachers for a successful implementation of the new Senior High School (SHS) curriculum.

NaCCA said the new curriculum for SHS students offers students the opportunity to study science and arts-related courses at the same time and will help students to study any course of their choice at the tertiary level without limitations

Acting Director in Charge of Curriculum at NaCCA, Mr Reginald Quartey on his part said contrary to the old curriculum where arts students were not allowed to learn major aspects of science, the new one tends to remove such barriers for SHS students

In a related development, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) is set to pilot the new Senior High School (SHS) curriculum in two Second-cycle schools namely Okuapeman Senior High School and Mampong Senior Technical School.

According to the Assessment Curriculum Council after the Second cycle school curriculum pilot, it would take feedback from the Senior High Schools (SHS) and incorporate concerns before the curriculum is rolled out nationally.

In a discussion with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Reginald Quartey, Head of the Curriculum Directorate at NaCCA said the new Senior High School Curriculum will focus on social, emotional and behavioural issues and values.

He indicated that the Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) had consulted various stakeholders including persons with disabilities to make the new curriculum inclusive and cater for the needs of learners with disability.

“The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment with the support of T-Tel (Transforming Teaching Education and Learning), a Ghanaian not-for-profit organisation, has constituted an Inclusive Education Expert Advisory panel to strengthen accessibility for learners with disability,” Reginald Quartey, told the Ghana News Agency in the discussion.
