MoH gives date for the recruitment of 15,200 nurses and midwives

The Ministry of Health (MoH) following financial clearance granted by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) has announced to recruit about 15,200 nurses and midwives nationwide for this academic year.

In a statement sighted by Thisterm.com, the Health Ministry said the recruitment of health professionals will start on August 5, 2024, at noon. The deadline for submission of the application it said Friday, 23rd August 2024 at 6.00 pm.

“Qualified applicants are requested to formally apply on the Ministry of Health online application portal by logging in onto https://hr.moh.gov.gh and follow the instructions to select the preferred agency under the Ministry,” MoH said.

Describing the recruitment process as transparent, the Ministry of Health has cautioned health professionals to be recruited to be wary of any person who may approach them on the pretext of assisting them with recruitment at a fee.

“The public is kindly informed that the recruitment process is very transparent. Applicants should therefore be aware of any unscrupulous individuals who may approach them on the pretext of assisting them for recruitment at a fee.

The Ministry therefore advises all applicants not to make any payment for this process. Whoever pays money does so at his/her own risk,” the management of the Ministry of Health said in the statement dated July 26, 2024.

In other news, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRMA) citing professionalism in the health sector has called for the complete cancellation of certificate and diploma nursing programmes in the country.

The General Secretary of GRNMA describing the current nursing system as bizarre said the nursing and midwifery profession has now seen the career being hijacked by auxiliary nurses, contributing almost 60% of the workforce.

“We think that the majority must be degree-prepared. We have to cancel certificate programmes, we have to cancel diploma programmes, and train nurses and midwives at the degree level,” Dr David Tenkorang Twum told JoyNews.

In the JoyNews interview monitored by Thisterm.com, the Nurses and Midwives Association official said “We have to cancel certificate programs, we have to cancel diploma programs, and train nurses and midwives at the degree level.”

“If we cancel the training of diploma and certificate, we can upgrade the knowledge of those who are here,” Dr David Tenkorang Twum said in a discussion on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday.
