MoE gives update on pick as 2024 election Bawumia running mate
The Minister of Education and Bosomtwe Member of Parliament, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum says he has no idea of his selection as running mate to pair the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2024 general election.
Speaking on PeaceFM’s Kokrokoo show, Adutwum in a reply to a question if he is being considered for the running mate slot said: “I have no idea. I don’t know . . . You’re telling me now.” He added that nobody has approached him for the position.
As the Vice-President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Mahamudu Bawumia is yet to announce his partner for the election, Dr Adutwum has been named as a prospective candidate for the running mate position
He competes with names like; Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh the Energy Minister, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare the Chief of Staff, Henry Kwabena Kokofu the immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency, among others.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Adutwum has said he is ready and willing to serve as the running mate for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, in the December 2024 presidential elections.
The Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM monitored by Thisterm.com said “I am here to serve my nation, in any capacity I find myself I will serve this nation.”
Dr Adutwum’s declaration has set him up in direct competition with other prominent figures within the NPP including former Education Minister and now Energy Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
60-year-old Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is seen as the perfect candidate to balance the presidential ticket, either geographically or ideologically, and to make them the best pair to happen in the NPP, in its bid to break the eight.
The bet on Bosomtwe Constituency’s Parliamentary candidate as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate stems from his humility, loyalty, dedication, hard work and commitment, as well as his significant contributions to the promotion of education.
