MoE declares BECE 2023 ‘SHS/SHTS/TVET’ placement cut-off point

An official of the Computerized School Selection Placement System (CSSPS) Secretariat as his outfit prepares to release the school placement of candidates who sat for this year’s BECE has announced the placement cut-off point.

In a discussion with Thisterm.com, the staff of the CSSPS said there is no direct cut-off point for the school placement however his outfit will not place BECE students who had an aggregate of 9 in English Language or Mathematics.

“We don’t have a direct cut-off point for the computer school placement, the only cut-off point we have is when a student gets aggregate 9 in English Language or Mathematics he or she will not qualify for placement,” he disclosed.

The CSSPS official explained that the school placement is based on six subjects namely; English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies and two additional best-performed subjects of a candidate.

So the Computerized School Selection and Placement System policy guideline is that if you get grade 9 in English Language or Mathematics required to qualify you for placement, you will not get school,” he told Thisterm.com.

Asked what measures have been put in place by his outfit to ensure a smooth school placement checking this year, the CSSPS official said the school placement portal has been upgraded to contain a huge amount of visitor traffic.

“The 2023 BECE graduates this year will use only https://cssps.gov.gh to check their secondary school placement. We can assure the students and public that there will be no downtime during the school checking process,” he noted.

A total of 600,714 candidates, comprising 300,323 boys and 300,391 girls from 18,993 Junior High Schools participated in the 2023 BECE for School Candidates which began on Monday, August 7, 2023, to Friday, August 11, 2023.

About the 2023 BECE for Private Candidates, a total entry figure of 1,743 candidates was recorded. This is made up of 889 males and 854 females. This year’s figure is 5.4% higher than the entry figure of 1,132 for 2022.

The 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates was held at 2,137 examination centres across the country, while 15 centres mainly in the regional capitals were used for the BECE for Private candidates.

To ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the 2023 BECE for School and Private, A total of 2,137 supervisors, 2,000 supervisors and 21,027 invigilators were tasked to oversee the administration of the national examination.
