KA Technologies introduces a short code for TM1 laptop collection
Teachers and qualified non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) yet to receive their TM1 laptop under the government ‘One teacher, One laptop’ initiative have been asked to dial *790*555# to generate their laptop collection code.
The manufacturer of the TM1 laptop, KA Technologies (KAT) has urged all teachers and non-teaching staff to contact ICT Coordinators in their respective regions or districts for assistance to enable them to receive their laptops.
The Ghana-based laptop company in a statement sighted by Thisterm.com said the creation of the collection short code was for audit purposes and to ensure that only eligible teaching and non-teaching staff receive the machine.
KAT in the statement released on Wednesday indicated that almost 96 per cent of beneficiary teaching and non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) across the country have received their laptops.
The Technology Solutions company said it is stepping up its efforts to ensure all outstanding beneficiaries in all parts of the country take advantage of the initiative as it brings the nationwide distribution to a close.
Teachers in the Ashanti, Greater Accra, North East, Upper West, Upper East, Northern and Savannah regions, KAT said are to activate their short code *790*555# and contact their ICT coordinators from Thursday, July 25 to collect their laptops.
For teachers and non-teaching staff in the remaining 10 regions, the manufacturer of the government-procured Teachers Mate 1 (TM1) laptops are to go through the same process from Wednesday, July 30, 2024.
The introduction of the shortcode comes after the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) expressed their displeasure over GES’s delay in the distribution of TM1 laptops to members of the various teacher unions in the country.
Amid the delay, the teacher union Monday, June 22, 2024, walked out on the Deputy Minister of Education in Charge of TVET, Prof Kingsley Nyarko, and their national leadership at their annual national council meeting in Kumasi.
