Speaking to the media, he said the agreement which he said had been concluded forms part of effective measures put in place by the government for members of the College Teachers Association to end their ongoing strike action.

“We have concluded the discussions with them. We have actually negotiated and signed on to it. I have signed my portion and all my colleagues who are supposed to sign have signed

In their case, their leadership have also signed. So what is needed is for them to have their national council meeting and also take a decision.

I must admit that we still have work in progress. The most important issue, even though there were quite a number of issues, was the issue of migration and I am appealing to them to actually hasten their move to be able to meet,” he noted.

The central government’s decision to sign an agreement with CETAG comes after the Association embarked on an industrial action to register their displeasure over the government’s refusal to better their work Conditions of Service.

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) following the directive for the Controller and Accountant General to freeze its members’ salaries subsequently withdrew all services in the 46 Colleges of Education.

In a statement sighted by Thisterm.com, the leadership of the College Teachers Association said the unanimous decision to withdraw all services was taken at an emergency meeting of the National Council today, 23rd July 2024.

Attendance to meetings, congregation ceremonies, and provision of academic counselling services as well as supervision of students in the halls of residence were services CETAG asked its members to stay away from until further notice.

“In an emergency meeting of National Council today, 23rd July 2024, council members took a unanimous decision to withdraw all our services which include attendance to meetings, congregation ceremonies, and provision of academic counselling services as well as supervision of students in the halls of residence with immediate effect until further notice.

The decision is in response to the Minister for Education’s directive to Principals and the Controller and Accountant General not to validate the July 2024 salaries of the teaching staff of the 46 public colleges of education due to our ongoing legal strike,” CETAG said in the statement.
