Govt releases ¢26m for supply of free SHS school uniforms, P.E kits
The central government has released GH¢26,000,000,00 to institutional suppliers responsible for the supply of school uniforms, P.E kits, and stationery as part of the Free Senior High School program, the Ministry of Education has said.
In a statement shared with Thisterm.com, the Ministry said the amount released underscores the government’s commitment to fostering quality education and ensuring the smooth running of educational institutions.
“The Ministry affirms its commitment to ensuring smooth, timely and efficient distribution of resources as we continue our efforts to improve and sustain quality education in Ghana,” the Ministry of Education said in the press statement.
In other news, the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum says amid the implementation of the Free SHS policy, the country has attained gender parity in Senior High School enrollment surpassing many other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
“A comparative analysis reveals that Ghana’s progress in gender equality in education is commendable, with equal opportunities provided to both male and female students.
This achievement is a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering girls through education,” the Member of Parliament for the Bosomtwe constituency stated speaking to journalists.
Commenting on the quality of the Free Senior High School programme, the Education Minister said despite the increase in student enrollment, the central government has remained committed to upholding high educational standards.
Adutwum said the flagship Free SHS policy together with targeted interventions to improve teaching and learning outcomes, has ensured students continue to receive quality education that will prepare them for success in the future.
