Ghana representing Africa finishes off in semis at 2024 Scripps Bee

As the only African country to participate in the 2024 edition of the Scripps National Spelling Bee ongoing in the United States, Ghana has been eliminated from the competition at the semi-final stage of the spelling contest.

This comes after N’Adom Darko-Asare of DPS International Ghana succeeding in the preliminary and quarter-finals advanced to the semi-finals stage of the Scripps Spelling Bee but unfortunately could not progress to the next stage.

At the preliminary stage, all three spellers representing Ghana, Giovanni Adjei from Christ the King International School, Abena Kwaffo from KNUST Basic School and N’Adom Darko-Asare qualified for the quarter-finals.

A total of 245 spellers qualified to compete in the 96th edition of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The youngest among the spellers is Sanil Thorat, a third grader from Fairfield Elementary Magnet School in Shreveport, Louisiana.
