GES to distribute 40,000 original BIC pens to 2024 BECE candidates
The Ghana Education Service (GES) is set to distribute 40,000 pieces of BIC cristal original pens to final year Junior High School (JHS) students in deprived communities sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
This comes after leading pen producer, BIC donated 40, 000 pieces of BIC Cristal Original pens to the Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) for onward distribution to 2024 BECE candidates in deprived communities.
A total of 569,095 candidates representing 282,648 males and 286,447 females from 19,506 private and public Junior High Schools will sit for the BECE for School to start on Monday, July 8, and next Monday, July 15, 2024.
Regarding BECE for Private Candidates, the West African Examinations Council in a statement sighted by Thisterm.com said about 1,366 candidates, comprising 735 males and 631 females are expected to participate in the examination.
A total of 2,123 supervisors, 1,889 assistant supervisors and 19,973 invigilators according to the Examinations Council have been engaged to ensure the smooth conduct of the BECE for School to be held in 2,123 centres nationwide.
For the national examination for Private Candidates, the not-for-profit-making organization said fifteen (15) centres, mainly in the regional capitals will be used for the Basic Education Certificate Examination for Private candidates.
In a related development, thirty-four prisoners are participating in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which commenced on Monday, July 8, 2024 and is expected to end on Monday, July 15, 2024.
The candidates, all males, include 27 juveniles from the Senior Correctional Centre (SCC), 5 from Nsawam Maximum Security Prison, and 2 from Sunyani Central Prison.
In an interview, the Greater Accra Regional Public Relations Officer for Ghana Prisons Service, DSP Loretta Valentina Amoah said the inmates have been thoroughly prepared by qualified, trained teachers from both the correctional service and the Ghana Education Service.
The Prisons Service spokeswoman expressed optimism about the inmates’ performance, confident they would excel in all subjects of the national examination administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
