GES reveals 2024/25 1st-yr SHS students reporting date after BECE
Students who sat for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to be admitted into Senior High Schools as first-year students will report to school on September 27, 2024, to begin the 2024/2025 academic year, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has said.
In a letter sighted by Thisterm.com to all heads of Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools, it said academic activities for first-year students commence on Friday, September 27 and end on Friday, December 6.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform all heads of Senior High/Senior High Technical Schools that the re-opening date for 1st year students of the 2024/2025 academic year,” the statement said.
In a related development, the GES says the selection of Senior High School and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for computer placement by students who participated in the 2024 BECE will commence soon.
In a statement shared with Thisterm.com, the Ghana Education Service (GES) said it will communicate details of the 2024 second-cycle school selection process and computerized school selection and placement system in due course.
“Parents, candidates and the general public are informed that the school selection process will commence after the BECE. Details of the selection process will be communicated in due course,” the Service said in the press statement.
The 2024 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School and Private Candidates started Monday, July 8, 2024, and ended on Monday, July 15, 2024, at all the designated 2,123 Centres across the country.
A total of 569,095 candidates representing 282,648 males and 286,447 females from 19,506 private and public Junior High Schools sat for the national examination administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Regarding BECE for Private Candidates, the not-for-profit-making organization in a statement sighted by Thisterm.com said about 1,366 candidates, comprising 735 males and 631 females participated in the examination.
A total of 2,123 supervisors, 1,889 assistant supervisors and 19,973 invigilators were tasked to ensure the smooth conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) held in 2,123 centres nationwide.
For the national examination for Private Candidates, the not-for-profit-making organization said fifteen (15) centres, mainly in the regional capitals will be used for the Basic Education Certificate Examination for Private candidates.
