GES ranked 3rd in 2023/2024 Excellence Awards for MoE agencies
The Ghana Education Service (GES) under the leadership of its Director-General, Dr Eric Nkansah has been adjudged the third-best performing agency under the Ministry of Education (MoE) for the 2023/2024 academic year.
The Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services, Mr Stephen Kwaku Owusu said the achievement is in recognition of GES’s commitment and achievement in the implementation of the 2023 Annual Action Plan in line with the 2023 Performance Agreement.
Announcing the success in a social media post sighted by Thisterm.com, GES said “For the first time, the Ghana Education Service has been awarded the third best-performing agency under the Ministry of Education – GH.
This is in recognition of our commitment and achievement in the implementation of the 2023 Annual Action Plan in line with the 2023 Performance Agreement.
The Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services, Mr Stephen Kwaku Owusu received the award on behalf of the Service. Congratulations to all staff of GES and our hardworking Director General, Dr Eric Nkansah.
About GES
Governed by a fifteen-member council called the GES council, the Ghana Education Service is a government agency under the Ministry of Education responsible for implementing government policies that ensure that Ghanaians of school-going age irrespective of their ethnicity, gender, disability, religious and political dispositions receive quality formal education.
The agency was established in 1974 by the National Redemption Council. It partners with organisations and is demarcated into various units to ensure the effective execution of its mandate to the Ghanaian society.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) was established in 1974 as a part of the Public Service of Ghana by the National Redemption Council under the National Redemption Council Decree (NRCD 247). It was later amended by the NRCD 252, NRCD 357 and the Supreme Military Council Decree (SMCD 63).
In the Constitution of the Fourth Republic, the earlier legislations have subsequently been amended by Acts of Parliament; Act 506 (1994) and Act 778 (2008).
