The partnership, he in a social media post sighted by Thisterm.com said aims to leverage Vodafone’s technological expertise to innovate and improve access to telecommunications and connectivity among GES staff across Ghana.

“Vodafone Ghana and GES are about to redefine connectivity. Get ready to dive into a world of seamless communication Together, we are set to create a positive impact on the learning experience for students and educators alike,” GES noted.

This comes after the 16th Asantehene, Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, following the impact of COVID-19 on the economy appealed to various telecommunications networks to reduce the price of internet or data charges for students in the country.

The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) made this appeal while speaking at the 2021 virtual special congregation ceremony of the prestigious Kumasi-based university.

His Royal Majesty in his address urged the mobile network operators to decrease the high prices they charge for the data saying “Students would require a lot of data in accessing the various online education portal”

He further encouraged them to improve the stability of the network, particularly in areas that have a high concentration of prospective students to enable them fully to participate in the online learning system.

In a related development, Vodafone Ghana a year after the management of the National Communication Authority (NCA) approved the takeover of Vodafone Ghana by Telecel has hinted at rebranding the company as Telecel Ghana.

The Director-General of NCA, Joe Anokye, in 2023 said Telecel had assumed a majority shareholder status, adding that the government through the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) was also a minority shareholder with 30%.

Telecel is an Africa-focused telecommunication service provider and a leader in digital service. Our goal is to enhance business opportunities and contribute to a digitally empowered Africa.
