She scored 8As in her 2023 WASSCE for School and emerged as the overall best student in the Technical Programme of the WAEC Distinction Award to recognise students who performed excellently in the International examination.

However, the native of Juaso and former student of Juaso Senior High Technical School Akosua Boateng, an orphan, despite her 8As, has been unable to continue her education at the tertiary level due to financial constraints.

For this, the Ghana Education Service (GES) Director-General during the 2023 edition of WAEC Distinction Awards last Wednesday pledged to sponsor the WASSCE graduate’s tertiary education to enable her to further her studies.

In honour of his promise, Dr Eric Nkansah after the WAEC Awards hosted Akosua’s immediate family and the Head of Juaso Senior High Technical School in his office to understand Adjei Boateng’s career choices and next steps further.

“During the WAEC Distinction Awards last Wednesday, I pledged to sponsor her tertiary education. Later that day, I hosted Akosua, her immediate family, and the Head of Juaso Senior High Technical School in my office to understand her career choices and next steps further,” the Director said in a social media post sighted by Thisterm.com.

Dr Nkansah’s gesture comes after the spokesman for WAEC, John Kapi announcing Akosua’s excellent grades obtained in the 2023 WASSCE for School Candidates said despite Akosua’s grades, she was not in any tertiary school.

In other news, a former student of St. James Seminary Senior High School, Leonard Kofi Marton Amo-Kodieh following his excellent performance in last year’s WASSCE for School has been adjudged the winner of the 2023 WAEC Distinction Award.

Amo-Kodieh placed first in the 2023 West Africa Secondary School Exam (WASSCE) for school candidates both in Ghana and the best candidate out of the 2,327,342 candidates from five member countries of WAEC.

Dzandu Selorm, a former student of Labone Senior High School emerged as the first runner-up, while Daniel Asenso-Gyambibi also a former student of St. James Seminary took the second runner-up position.

In March this year, Leonard, Selorm and Daniel won the top three prizes as the best three (3) out of the 2,327,342 students from the five (5) member countries who sat for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

They won the WAEC International Excellence Awards as best candidates from the five (5) member countries who sat for the WASSCE 2023 and were also awarded at the 72nd Annual WAEC Council Meeting in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
