GES announces ‘SBC’ newly approved Subjects for 2024/2025 BECE

The Ghana Education Service (GES) following rumours of a reduction of the subjects for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has released newly approved subjects to be examined at this year’s national examination.

In a statement sighted by Thisterm.com, the management of GES said the final-year Junior High School candidates will sit for the usual subjects however there have been some changes in subjects to be Compulsory and optional.

The Ghana Education Service in the release said it has grouped the subject into three categories (mandatory subject, Elective subject and optional subject) for the 2024 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The compulsory subjects, the Ghana Education Service (GES) indicated are English Language, Mathematics, General Science, Social Studies, Religious and Moral Education, Career Technology and Creative Arts and Design.

Ghanaian languages according to the management of the Service is an elective subjects, with French, Arabic, and Computing as optional subjects for the 34th edition of the school examination for Junior High School students.

Mandatory subjects

1. English Language

2. Mathematics

3. General Science

4. Social Studies

5. Religious and Moral Education

6. Career Technology

7. Creative Arts and Design.

Candidates will write Ghanaian Language as an elective, based on their studied language.

Optional subjects;

1. French

2. Arabic

3. Computing.

Slated to be administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination to be based on the Standards-Based Curriculum will start on July 8, 2024 and end on July 12, 2024.
