Free SHS records its best WASSCE School results yet in 2023 – Data

Since its introduction in 2017, the central government flagship Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy has seen its best results in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) School this academic year.

The outcome of the “Ghana-only version” of the examination shows the best results in three core subjects (English, Integrated Science, and Social Studies) from 2015 to 2023 and the third-best results in Mathematics over the same period.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) data indicates that 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, are the years in more than 50% of Free Senior High School graduates, obtained aggregates A1 to C6 in all core subjects.

The 2023 WASSCE for School data also showed that the 73.11% recorded for the English Language, 66.82% for Integrated Science, and 76,76% for Social Studies in the 2023 examinations is the best on record since 2015.

The International examination was, however, confronted with examination malpractices including some Senior High Schools using Artificial Intelligence to answer some of the WASSCE for School questions for their students.

In a statement sighted by Thisterm.com, the not-for-profit organisation said it cancelled the subject results of 3,647 candidates for bringing foreign material like prepared notes, textbooks, and printed material into the examination halls.

“Cancellation of the entire results of 839 candidates for possession of mobile phones in the examination halls, and lastly, the withholding of subject results of 4,280 candidates and the entire results of 1,005 for various suspected offences

Yet still, some subject results of candidates from 235 schools have been withheld for collusion and the use of artificial intelligence-generated answers. These cases are still under investigation. The withheld results of these candidates may be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of investigations” the WAEC statement noted.

1. Visit the WASSCE checker card website

2. Click on the “Buy Now” button.

3. Fill in the details by adding your First name, Last name, Phone number and E-mail address.

4. Scroll down and click on “Proceed To Payment”.

5. Select “Pay with Mobile Money” and enter your MoMo number.

6. Click on “Confirm”.

7. Approve payment on your phone by entering your Mobile Money Pin.

How to check WASSCE result

1. Visit the WASSCE result portal

2. Enter your Index number

3. Select Examination type (WASSCE School)

4. Select Examination year (2023)

5. Enter your Date of birth (day-month-year)

6. Enter your voucher card serial number

7. Enter the PIN on the voucher card

8. Re-enter your Index number and

9. Select Examination year (2023)

10. Click on the Submit button and wait for your results to be displayed in the next window.
