Ninety-nine (99) spellers including two (2) Ghanaian spellers now domiciled in the UK and Canada have been shortlisted to compete at the national finals of The Spelling Bee – Gh, scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2023.

Not only are Ghanaian foreigners joining the competition but this year’s edition has the largest number of speller siblings in the finals with the Kittah family setting the record with three sisters (Nicole, Kimora and Mandie) to compete.

Coming from various cities, including Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Takoradi, Sunyani and Peduase, the shortlist of almost a hundred spellers for the spelling competition follows months of rigorous grooming, training, coaching, and assessments.

The winner of the Bee according to its organizers will receive a prize package worth $10,000-plus, including an all-expense-paid trip to the Scripps Spelling Bee in the USA, representing Ghana as the only African country in the Scripps.

In a social media post sighted by Thisterm.com, the organizers of the Bee said Spelling Maestro Nathaniel Attoh with the most turning letters into a lyrical feast will host the 2024 edition of The Spelling Bee – Ghana on Saturday.

Guest speakers to grace the 2024 national spelling competition it said are Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, and Member of Parliament for Ketu South, Hon Abla Dzifa Gomashie.

Other guests are the newly appointed first-ever Ghanaian female Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vodafone Ghana, Mrs Patricia Obo-Nai and Mrs Sylvia Inkoom, Managing Director of First National Bank.
