Education Minister to give address on State of Education in Ghana
The Minister in Charge of Education and Bosomtwe Member of Parliament, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, will give an address on the state of education in the country, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced.
In a social media post sighted by Thisterm.com, the Education Ministry said the State of Education address to be delivered by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum will take place at the Accra International Conference Centre at 9:00 am.
The Education Minister is expected to give an update on the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) bill he submitted to Parliament to be passed into law for the flagship secondary school policy to be permanent in the country.
Regards to Minority in Parliament’s allegation that the government owes companies and individuals over six billion Ghana Cedis for their involvement in the Free Senior High School policy, we expect the Minister to also comment on that.
The Caucus has also said the government owes the West African Examinations Council about GH¢224 million, making it difficult for the WAEC to focus on the conduct of the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination
“The government still owes WAEC, exams will start in August, [but] government has not released any money to WAEC, they owe them a total of GH¢224 million, so WAEC is unable to talk again, we shouldn’t be going on that tangent,” the Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Peter Nortsu Kotoe told journalists.
In a related development, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has been selected as the guest of honour for the launch of the 2024 edition of the Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP) to be held at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall in Accra.
With National Teaching Council (NTC) Registrar, Dr Christian Addai Poku as host of the event, the launch of the 2024 Ghana Teacher Prize Award is on the theme “Celebrating Excellence: Valorising Teachers” and strictly by invitation.
This academic year’s Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP) award scheduled for October 3, 2024, to October 5, 2024, will be held in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.
Greater Kumasi has been picked as the 2024 Ghana Teacher Prize hosteler after the NTC Registrar led a team of officials from his outfit to the region to engage stakeholders in preparation for this year’s ceremony slated for early October 2024.
