Speaking at a press briefing, the GES Director-General entreated the heads of various public second-cycle schools not to recall the final-year students currently on vacation back to school to register for the 2024 WASSCE for School

“We have also learnt that some of our Form 3 students who are already home on vacation have been asked by some of the schools to come back and complete their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) registration.

We want to say unequivocally that no student on vacation should be asked to come back to school for this registration

The reason is that by the time they come back to school on 17th April, they will have enough time to complete their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School registration.

Headmasters should note that students should not be asked to go back to school because we know that students live far and near,” the official of the Ghana Education Service under the auspices of the Ministry of Education told the media.

Dr Nkansah at the press conference said government has absorbed the WASSCE for School registration fee, thus no parent is to pay any money in the name of WASSCE registration for their wards participating in the examination.

He also commended three pre-tertiary Teacher Unions – Ghana National Association of Teachers, National Association of Graduate Teachers, and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana -  for calling off their two-week old strike.

The Director-General said that the Ghana Education Service (GES) would continue to engage them in their demands to ensure they get well-deserved working conditions and incentives and benefits to enhance their work.

The leadership of the government teacher unions in the early hours of April 2, 2024 decided to call off their nationwide strike after the National Labour Commission (NLC) got an interim injunction to prevent their industrial action.

GNAT, NAGRAT and CCT-GH following the industrial action call off has directed it members to return to classroom to continue academic activities as the leadership continue to engage the central government on their demands.
